A Shastastic Night at Mt. Shasta
Day 42: 01/01/2022

New year, new state! Today was our first day back on the road in over two weeks. Our goal was to drive down into California and make a "V" back into Oregon in order to miss some big mountain passes. It was a perfect day for driving, with sunny and clear skies. We were so looking forward to getting out of cold and snowy weather. About 4 hours down the road we have made it to the point of the "V". It was a tiny town called Weed, California. Of course, we had to stop at the souvenir shop and get some postcards. We also took some time to research more about the mountain that was nearby. It was called Mount Shasta. It was a whopping 14,179 feet, which makes it the fifth tallest in California. We quickly found out there was land at the base of the mountain that allows free camping. We went there right away and thought it was perfect. After taking a million photos before the sun was gone for the day, we made some dinner and tried to do some planning for January. Adam did some playing around with his camera and found out how to take some amazing photos of the stars.
