The Glory of Cheap Gas!
Day 63: 01/22/2022

Another windy and dusty day in Death Valley. Fortunately, we’re packing up and heading to Joshua Tree National Park! But for the first time this trip, we’ve had to get a bag of ice and use our large cooler. The windy conditions became an issue as the refrigerator pilot light kept blowing out. Therefore risking that our food would go bad. Thankfully, the cooler and ice worked just fine.
As we began the journey out of the valley, we knew we’d need some gas after a short while. So we made a small detour into Nevada. For the first time in forever, we were able to get gas for less than $3 per gallon! $2.97 to be exact. This put a big smile on our faces! Our route took us through Baker, CA and we were able to get a quick view of the "World's Tallest Thermometer!"
About 4 hours later we made it to the gates of Joshua Tree! The first glimpses of the park were quite nice and we even caught an excellent sunset! As dark approached, we pulled into a free dry camping area in Chiriaco Summit where we’ll stay for the next four nights.
